"Dog AID is a U.K.-based nationwide charity which helps people with physical disabilities to train their OWN pet dogs to be generally obedient, and in suitable cases, to further train their pets to work as Assistance Dogs, thereby giving their disabled owner greater independence in everyday life. The dogs can be trained to perform many specialised tasks such as, for example, opening/shutting doors, fetching help in emergencies, retrieving household objects by name, loading/unloading the washing machine, to name a few - tasks which are tailored to the suit needs of each individual owner. Any breed of dog of any age will be considered for training, although owners should bear in mind that their dog should be healthy and reasonably young if their intent is to train their pet to become an Assistance Dog, as training may take up to 2 years to be fully completed. The training programme often commences in the comfort of the owner's own home, and they are given the knowledge and skills to train their own pets themselves under the careful guidance of a specialised Dog AID trainer.
